American Royal Wedding - Mamie Geneva Doud

Mamie Geneva Doud

Dwight David Eisenhower fell in love with Mamie Geneva Doud and proposed to her on Valentines Day in 1916.  On July 1, 1916 Dwight and Mamie were married.  Dwight was 25 and Mamie was 19 years old.

Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mamie Doud on their wedding day.  This is the only wedding photo of them that I could find online.

What a handsome looking couple.  I like Mamie's style of dress throughout her life although her hairstyle as she got older was not the most flattering.

Mamie must have been very self conscious of her forehead.  Her hairline must have started really far back and I figure that is why she always wore bangs.  I think that she wanted to cover up her forehead.

Mamie and Dwight had two sons together.

Mamie and Dwight Eisenhower were married until his passing in 1969.  Mamie passed away ten years later at age 82.

Mamie is second from the left.  I really love Mamie's style.  It was classic throughout her life.

American Royal Wedding - Alice Roosevelt

Alice Lee Roosevelt was the daughter of former president Theodore Roosevelt.  Alice was born on February 12, 1884.  She was very self assured and outspoken for a woman of those times.  Alice also had a great sense of humor.  Her outgoing personality endeared many and she was known as Princess Alice.

In 1906 Alice Roosevelt married Nicholas Longworth.    The marriage was shakey almost from the start.

By Alice's own admission her daughter's biological father was the result of an ongoing affair that she had with a senator.  Nicholas Longworth had numerous affairs while they were married.
On February 20, 1980 Alice Roosevelt Longworth passed away at the age of 96.

American Royal Wedding - Julie Nixon

Nixon married David Eisenhower on December 22, 1968 at Marble Collegiate Church.  David is the grandson of former president Dwight D. Eisenhower and Julie is the daughter of former president Richard M. Nixon.

Ah...the sweet innocent appearance of youth.

As of this post Julie Nixon Eisenhower is 64 years old.  Here she is with her beloved husband David Eisenhower.  Julie and David have three children, Jennie, Alexander and Melanie.

American Royal Wedding - Tricia Nixon

Tricia Nixon Married Edward Finch Cox on June 12, 1971 in the Rose Garden of the White House.  I remember well watching it on TV.  I was in grade school and dreamed of growing up and having my own beautiful wedding.

Tricia Nixon wore a wedding gown designed by Priscilla of Boston.

Both of them look so young and innocent.

Trixin Nixon Cox today is now 66 years old as of this post.

Tricia and Edward had one son Christopher who was born in 1979.  The above photo shows Tricia, Edward and their son Christopher at his own wedding on June 4, 2011.
