American Royal Wedding - Eleanor Roosevelt

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1984.  She is the niece of former president Theodore Roosevelt.  In 1902 when Eleanor was 17 years old she met her distant cousin Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  Franklin took a shine to Eleanor and immediately started showing affection towards her, much to the dismay of his mother Sarah Roosevelt.  Franklin's ardor towards Eleanor grew and in 1903 he decides to ignore his mother's objections and begins courting Eleanor.  In November 1904 Franklin and Eleanor became engaged.  Sarah Roosevelt was not pleased, so she took her son away on a cruise hoping that the separation would cool his feelings for Eleanor.  It didn't and upon Sarah and Franklin's return, a date was set for the wedding.  On March 17, 1905 Franklin Delano Roosevelt married Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, his fifth cousin once removed (what ever that means).

The wedding was a high society wedding and president Theodore Roosevelt attended, yet this is the only photo of the wedding that I could find online.  I could not even find one with Franklin standing with his bride.  Maybe Sarah Roosevelt had them all burned except for this one?...hee hee haa haa

Franklin and Eleanor traveled to Venice, Italy for their honeymoon.  Franklin took this picture of his bride riding in a gondola.  I just LOVE a love story where the groom marries the woman he loves no matter what anyone else has to say about it.  Franklin Roosevelt stood up against fierce opposition from his mother Sarah.  Good for you Franklin, you showed determination and resolve to marry the woman who stole your heart.

I am not sure why Sarah objected to her son marrying Eleanor.  Unfortunately, Eleanor was not considered a beauty and that probably had something to do with it.  I admire Franklin for seeing the beauty in Eleanor inside and out.

A photo of the Roosevelts at their home in Albany, New York.  Franklin went on to become the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 to 1945.  This was befire term limits began.  Franklin served four terms as president and passed away during the fourth term.

American Royal Wedding - Julie Nixon

Nixon married David Eisenhower on December 22, 1968 at Marble Collegiate Church.  David is the grandson of former president Dwight D. Eisenhower and Julie is the daughter of former president Richard M. Nixon.

As of this post Julie Nixon Eisenhower is 64 years old.  Here she is with her beloved husband David Eisenhower.  Julie and David have three children, Jennie, Alexander and Melanie.

American Royal Wedding - Tricia Nixon

Tricia Nixon Married Edward Finch Cox on June 12, 1971 in the Rose Garden of the White House.  I remember well watching it on TV.  I was in grade school and dreamed of growing up and having my own beautiful wedding.

Trixin Nixon Cox today is now 66 years old as of this post.

Tricia and Edward had one son Christopher who was born in 1979.  The above photo shows Tricia, Edward and their son Christopher at his own wedding on June 4, 2011.

American Royal Wedding - Luci Baines Johnson

Luci Baines Johnson, youngest daughter of Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson married Patrick Nugent on August 6, 1966.   Luci had just turned 19 years old the month before on July 2nd.
 

Imagine having your wedding photos in a national magazine. 

Luci Baines leaves the White House with her father President Lyndon Johnson to marry her prince.  Luci converted to Roman Catholicism and chose to marry in a church instead of the White House.

While Luci Baines was marrying her prince people were protesting outside the White House.

Former president Lyndon Johnson, his daughter Luci Baines Alice Roosevelt Longworth and Patrick Nugent.  Alice Roosevelt Longworth is the daughter of former president Theodore Roosevelt. 
 

The following year Luci Baines gave birth to her first child, Patrick Lyndon Nugent.  Patrick was followed by three more children, Nicole, Rebecca and Claudia.  This marital union did not last.  Luci and Patrick separated and later divorced.  The Catholic church annulled their marriage in 1979 which means that the marriage never existed, if I am not mistaken.  That makes no sense to me.  Luci and Patrick were together for some years and had four children together so how can that be annulled.
 

Luci Baines Johnson today.  As of this post Luci is 65 years old.  She is also remarried to a man named Ian L. Turpin.
