Home Library Rooms

If you have read my brownstone page then you know that I live in a Queen Anne Victorian brownstone that has 15 rooms.  One of the luxuries of living in a house with so many rooms is that I have extra rooms to make into whatever I want.  I love to read so I made one of the rooms on the second floor my personal library room.  I love it!  I made it cozy and kept the color scheme light.  It is nice for me to go into my library room, lay on the vintage sofa that I purchased from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for $65.00.

My library room

I really love spending time in here.  I have so many books though that I need lots more book shelves.  Right now most of my books are still in either rubber storage bins are laying in piles in my arts & crafts room.

Below are photos of home library rooms that I find very cozy and inspiring.

This library room is a little dark fo my own personal taste but it is still very lovely and the sofa does lighten it up a bit.

I love the vinatge framed photos on the walls of this library room.

I really love the bold colors of this library room playing off of the white which adds a balance so that the bold colors are not too much on the eyes.

Wow

If you don't have an extra room to make into a library you can still create a library space.

Here is a lovely bedroom with a library nook in it.

This very bohemian looking living room has books displayed on the coffe table.

Charming reading space.

I love seeing books in a home.  Books, like plants, gives a warm and cozy look and feel to a house or apartment.  There are many ways that you can display books besides a bookshelf.

I hope that you have been inspired.

Goodreads

Two weeks ago I found a social network for people who love to read.  It is called goodreads and apparently it has been around for a few years already.  I never heard of it until just two weeks ago.  I love it!!!  I so much love to read that I can call it an addiction at this point.  Goodreads is for people like me who enjoy reading immensely.  When anyone tells me that they don't like to read I cannot comprehend that.  Not liking to read is a foreign concept to me that I don't even want to understand.  Reading enriches my life.

Click the goodreads button to join goodreads.

There are many things about goodreads that I love.  First off you are in the online company of other people who feel as you do about reading.  It doesn't make any sense to join if you are not a book lover.   Secondly, you get to interact with some of the authors of the books you are reading.  Many self published authors are on goodreads.  Thirdly, you can rate, review and recommend the books you read.  Fourthly, goodreads is great for keeping track of books that you read.  There is a really fun goodreads challenge that you can enter into each year.  Another great benefit is that you can join any number of groups focusing on genre's, authors, etc.  I have met some wonderful people already just by joining groups.

If you are a book lover and not already a member of goodreads I invite you to check it out.

Writing Romance?

I first started reading romance novels when I was 19.  I think that I already mentioned that in a previous post.  I literally read hundreds of them because I love them.  It is a great way to escape into fantasy and believe it or not helped relieve stress.  I read romance novels for years.  Some time in my early thirties I found myself not going to read them so much .  I started reading a lot more new age spiritual books that really helped to empower me to create my best life.

Several years later African American romance novels were being published by Harlequin Arabesque.   I was delighted because now I could read romance novels where the heroine looked like me.  Amen!  Hallelujah!

For years I always fancied myself writing a romance novel.  I still want to write a romance novel but I don't want it to be cheesy.  I would like to write at least one romance story that is timeless just as Jane Austen's novels are timeless.  I wish that I could take 6 months off just to write it.  I know that I could do it if I had a few months to devote to it.  I have the title of my romance story already.  I chose it about 10 years ago and I know who the hero and heroine is.  I see them in my mind's eye all the time.  What I am not too sure about is what their story is going to be.

I decided to go for it and dig into writing.  I put it all out into the Universe.  And so It IS.
