Vintage Talcum Powder Tins

I am old enough to remember when talcum powder was massed produced in the most lovely tins.  You can still buy them packaged this way but for the most part you don't see this anymore.  Many people stopped using talcum powder because of its link to cancer.  Before 1973 talcum powder contained asbestos as an ingredient.  Of course that was before we knew how harmful asbestos is.  Talc is a soft natural mineral that some believe can also cause ill health.  The jury is still out on that becuase numerous tests have proved inconclusive about talc.  You can find powder that is made with cornstarch instead which is completely safe.

I love the dusting powder tins as well.  I remember that Avon used to sell dusting powder a lot in the most beautiful tins.

Xenia you blog about the nicest stuff! I never thought about vintage talc containers. Your Cath Kidston blog post made me think about the two rolls of wallpaper I have still waiting to go up in my daughter's room :)
