Some people who are purists do not like this version of Wuthering Heights at all. Usually when I see a movie that is based on a book I also prefer that it stay close to the book and not go off in other directions. However, I loved this 2009 adaptation of Wuthering Heights. It is a two part television adaptation starring Tom Hardy as Heathcliff and Charlotte Riley as Catherine. I think it is one of the most romantic version of this story.
Charlotte Riley and Tom Hardy as Catherine and Heathcliff.
The chemistry between Tom and Charlotte is astounding. These two actors were perfect together. Tom Harding's interpretation of Heathcliff is extremely intense. There is simply no mistaking his love for Catherine and she is forever etched into his heart and soul.
I love how the story is told in this adaptation. It starts in the middle of the story and uses flashback scenes to bring you up to date on why two particular men hate each other.
Wuthering Heights is not only a love story. It is about jealousy and revenge and how deeply it can affect the lives of the people and involved and others.
There is also an all star cast.

Alexandra Pearson portrays young Catherine.
Burn Gorman as Hindley

Heathcliff and Catherine
Poignant scenes.
I loved everything about this version of Wuthering Heights except how it ended. I thought it was just too awful and cowardly, doing a disservice to the character.
Overall I think this is an outstanding costume drama and I would definitely watch it again.
